Researching the American Museum of Natural History began with a search for interesting libraries around New York City. The Gilder Center for Science, Education, and Innovation, the first new addition to the museum since 2000, contains the Gottesman Research Library and Learning Center on its fourth floor.

The architectural project by Studio Gang was announced in 2014 and took nine years to create. It is a marvel of sinuous walls and arched windows, with alcoves to peer out from on every floor.

The building continues to entrance the public, seen in the bright eyed stares and agape mouths as they first walk into the space. This inspired a deep-dive into how the method we choose to display information leads to more enthusiastic reception. Though much of the actual library is restricted to museum staff, the reading room contains a large display of books and artifacts called the Great Range that all museum goers have access to.

Housing a Collection both visits the library's past and looks forward to its future as it continues to inspire learning and knowledge in all ages.
